What’s the secret behind a long and happy marriage? These tips will at least put you on the right track!
1. Be loving
Greet each other at the end of the day with a smile and open arms.
2. Show Gratitude
Thank each other for your individual tasks and responsibilities.
3. Do not take the emotions of the other person personally
Accept each other’s emotions as good or bad, but don’t take it personally.
4. Encourage each other
If your partner expresses himself negatively, you don’t have to give a negative response. Validate the negativity or emotion of the other person, but do not try to let negativity overpower you. Remember that emotions always come and go.
5. Do not try to outdo each other
Conversations can quickly turn into a game of ‘my day was harder’, but this just isn’t productive. Choose to put yourself in the other person’s shoes and be disciplined enough to think about the other person first.
6. Don’t be negative about your body in front of your partner
According to most men, this is incredibly unattractive.
7. Men, say we look beautiful
Every man should tell his wife from time to time how beautiful she is. Women like to feel admired, so show affection and compliment both her body and mind.
8. Make time for each other
In the perfect world, every couple would have a date night at least once a week. With children, however, that can be a challenge, so arrange a date once in a while at home.
Find a series on Netflix that you both like and enjoy a glass of wine or cup of tea together when the kids are in bed. Read the same book or listen to the same podcast so you can talk about it together.
9. Be patient
Every relationship needs room for human error and personal growth. Be committed and grow and change with your partner.
This looks different for every relationship, but find out what makes your partner feel respected. In a marriage, respect is much like love.
Remember, these are only targets in a marriage. Working on your relationship or marriage is always worthwhile – everyone, especially your children, benefits from a happy, close family.
